Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 19, 2026

DishPassport ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the DishPassport mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

DishPassport does not collect, store, or process any of the following:

  • Your name, email address, or any personal account information
  • Login credentials or passwords
  • Location data (GPS or otherwise)
  • Contact lists, calendars, or other device data
  • Any information that identifies you personally

You are never required to create an account to use DishPassport.

2. Anonymous Device Identifier

To support basic app functionality — such as enforcing the free-tier scan limit — DishPassport generates a random, anonymous UUID (universally unique identifier) the first time you open the app. This UUID is stored locally on your device and used solely to count scans. It cannot be used to identify you personally and is not linked to any other data about you.

3. Menu Images and AI Processing

When you scan a restaurant menu, the image captured by your camera is sent to OpenAI's API for processing. OpenAI's AI models analyze the image to translate dishes, provide descriptions, and estimate nutritional content.

  • Images are transmitted securely over HTTPS.
  • We do not store menu images on our servers after processing is complete.
  • OpenAI may process these images in accordance with OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
  • Do not scan menus that contain sensitive personal information.

4. Scan History — Local Storage Only

Your scan history — including translated dish results — is stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly use the sharing feature. You can clear your scan history at any time from within the App's settings.

5. Dish Data and Supabase

DishPassport uses Supabase, a cloud database platform, to store and retrieve general dish information (such as dish names, descriptions, and cuisine categories). This data is not personal — it does not include any user-identifiable information. No personal user data is stored in Supabase.

6. Subscriptions and Payments (RevenueCat)

If you choose to subscribe to DishPassport Pro, your payment is processed entirely through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. We do not handle, store, or access your payment card information.

We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status. RevenueCat receives your anonymous device identifier and subscription status (active/inactive). RevenueCat does not receive your name, email, or payment information. Review RevenueCat's Privacy Policy for details.

7. Camera and Photo Library Permissions

DishPassport requests access to:

  • Camera: Used solely to scan restaurant menus. We do not use the camera for any other purpose.
  • Photo Library: Used solely to allow you to select an existing photo of a menu. We do not access, store, or transmit any other photos.

You can revoke these permissions at any time in your device Settings. Revoking camera or photo access will disable menu scanning functionality.

8. Third-Party Services

The App integrates with the following third-party services:

  • OpenAI API — for AI-powered menu translation and dish analysis
  • RevenueCat — for subscription management
  • Supabase — for dish data storage (no personal data)
  • Apple App Store / Google Play Store — for payment processing and app distribution

We do not sell, rent, or share any data with third parties for advertising, marketing, or any other commercial purpose.

9. Data Security

All data transmitted between the App and third-party services is encrypted using industry-standard TLS/HTTPS. Your scan history remains on your device, protected by your device's own security measures (screen lock, device encryption).

10. Children's Privacy

DishPassport is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the App, please contact us.

11. International Users

DishPassport is available worldwide. By using the App from outside the United States, you acknowledge that menu images will be processed by OpenAI, which operates servers in the United States. Data processing is governed by OpenAI's privacy practices and applicable law.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
